Long before discovering yoga, I was teaching Pole dance classes, which is a combination of dance and acrobatic moves on a vertical bar.
I started to feel pain until I was diagnosed with tendonitis. So I was looking for something to help me with flexibility and balance. This is how Yoga was naturally recommended to me.
After doing some research, I found a class in my area. I attended my first class to give a try to this very promising practice...
It was a huge disappointment! I came to this class with a lot of energy because this is who I am and I was frustrated because of too many static poses and meditation...It was way too calm for me.
I didn't want to stop exploring this practice after this first experience. I told myself that maybe I didn't come on the right day...You know one of those days where everything goes wrong? Maybe I had wrong expectations about this class. Or maybe I didn't have a good feeling with the teacher or it wasn't the right level of practice for me...Anyway! I came back to class but with a different teacher.
This time, I found it more dynamic. Less static poses. I told myself there really was something to do about it. So I started to add yoga poses in my pole dance warm-ups, and created short dynamic sequences on soundtracks. What a pleasure to practice like this! I gave space to movement in between the poses and this is how Yoga dance was created.
I know that just like it happened to me in my first yoga class, many people don't like it because they want more energy, and this is a shame because yoga has so many benefits. I really want to share those benefits with you, but in a fun way, with music and movement !
